The original broadcast of The War of the Worlds, written and narrated by Orson Welles.

Beamed across the country via radio, it was the fictional story of an alien invasion of the USA by Martians, commencing their attack in New Jersey.

Drawn in by its perceived realism many, many American listeners panicked and thought what they were listening to was real.  Some mistook the news as coverage of a German invasion.

October 30, 1938.

*Written by H.G. Wells, performed by Orson Welles.

Brilliant story, and listening to it I can definitely see how some people coming in after the introduction might think it was a news story and panic.

Oh my gosh, best day ever when this appears on my dashboard

Reblogging for later.

in one of my other favorite classes (fantasy/reality beliefs), we spent an entire 75-minute session listening to this. psych major/linguistics minor ftw!

i miss college.
